Wertungen Im Konstruktionsbereich Der Ökonomischen Ethik*: Über Die Verwendung Der Ethikkonzeption Karl Homanns in Der Betriebswirtschaftslehre

In this article, it is argued that the (necessary) use of ethics theories in management studies, calls for an explication and critical reflection over the values that are implied by them. Apart from the values of the ethical theories themselves, the researcher inevitably introduces additional values that we characterise as "values on the construction level of theory". This is demonstrated with the example of economic ethics.

Personalabbau Und Ethik*: Ein Historischer Essay Zur Frage, Ob Es Richtig War, Kathryn Mcneil Zu Entlassen

Approximately 200 years ago, economic thinking changed fundamentally. The morality of the market emerged. However, it has been competing up to the present day with the older 'family' morality, which in turn can be traced back to Aristotle's concept of the 'oikos'. The laying off of Kathryn McNeil serves to exemplify this conflict of moralities. From an historical perspective, we might well live in a period of transition, in which the economy manages to reconcile the morality of the market wit...

Should Business Be Moral?

This comment on the Kupper article on business ethics recounts how it says researchers should dig into the real-world problems that confront accounting, finance, and marketing, and they should eschew subjective values in favor of more scientific and empirical modes of analysis. This approach, opens new perspectives and allows for the use of logical, empirical methods and the kind of knowledge that is "familiar to business administration academics." It is agreed that business ethics in German-...

Business Ethics in Germany: Problems, Concepts, and Functions/Unternehmensethik in Deutschland. Probleme, Konzepte Und Funktionen

This paper addresses the question of why business ethics did not become a standard part of research and academic education in German-speaking countries until now. It traces this trend back to experiences of the dictatorship prior to World War II. Until the 1980s, Max Weber's concept of value-free scientific statements dominated the discipline. Since the mid-1980s, several positions and concepts of business ethics have been suggested, all of which failed to garner the acceptance of business et...
