  • The Zeitschrift fur Personalforschung (ZfP) - German Journal of Human Resource Research - is an academic journal which is concerned with state-of-the-art research in the area of strategic and operative human resource management (HRM) in organisations. The journal seeks to publish articles on the broad subject of HRM without limiting its profile to one particular definition of HRM, discipline or methodology. It seeks to attract contributions which can be in the form of review essays, conceptual papers with critical reflection, and empirical studies, which are particularly welcomed. Its focus on the academic debate sets the ZfP aside from other personnel journals which serve primarily as discussion forums for practitioners and to provide tool application recommendations.

  • Employers' associations in the metalworking industry have developed new strategies concerning both their organisational development and collective bargaining, impressed by growing membership losses and increasing critics by small and medium-sized enterprises. The present analysis fills this gap by examining the effect of works councils on membership loyalty. The empirical basis of this work is representative data gathered from 1230 members of IG Metall who are employed in the automotive and machine-building industries. The first part of the article discusses the importance of membership loyalty by considering Mancur Olson's "logic of collective action". As it lacks an adequate explanation for conditions in Germany an alternative, three-dimensional model of membership loyalty will be suggested. The empirical section begins with an analysis of the relationship b...

  • Innovation Culture is a fuzzy but well-established topic both in academic research and corporate innovation management. However, its often claimed relevance for innovation success has rarely been tested empirically. This study contributes to the literature, suggesting a focussed reconceptualization of innovation culture as the way that errors and failures are dealt with in organizations. Using empirical data from 408 product innovation projects of high-technology corporations, this study describes typical "failure cultures": The findings suggest that the common rhetoric of "error tolerance" in organizations is not quite realistic. Moreover, "error hostile" cultures do not seem to have detrimental effects on innovation success. The empirical results shed new light on the functionalities ...
