Artificial Neural Networks are commonly used in pattern classification, function approximation, optimization, pattern matching, machine learning and associative memories. They are currently being an alternative to traditional statistical methods for mining data sets in order to classify data. Artificial Neural Networks are well-established technology for solving prediction and classification problems, using training and testing data to build a model. However, the success of the networks is highly dependent on the performance of the training process and hence the training algorithm. In this paper, we applied the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) Optimization Algorithm on training feed-forward neural networks to classify different data sets which are widely used in the machine learning communit...

This article analyses the effect of the East-European business environment on quality management as a means of operationalising chain management strategies. The particular focus on the Ukrainian agri-food business in combination with fifteen in-depth expert interviews reveals the infancy of chain (quality) management in transition economies. General mechanisms of chain management are primarily installed by foreign enterprises acting as focal companies in their supply chain networks. At the same time, progress in operationalisation of chain management (including quality management) is still hampered, mainly due to infrastructural and institutional conditions.

The internationalization process of the retailing sector is still in its turbulent starting phase. The present process of retail internationalization has created new trends in the agri-food sector such as global sourcing and retail branding. The example of Metro Group Russia underlines this point. The introduction and implementation of supply chain management concepts affect Russian agri-food business. Therefore, the aim of our article is to analyze this development. We outline the internationalization process of the retail business, and then we elaborate on the structural changes. Second, we apply this knowledge to the Russian agri-food business. We also discuss the future prospects and outlook on further development of the Russian food sector in the context of retail internationalizati...

Organisational spirituality has gained popularity. While some authors see a spiritually fulfilling workplace as a benefit for employees and organisations alike, critical authors point out the potentially totalising effects of organisations that try to colonise employees' minds, hearts and souls. Whereas most existing critical studies are based on literature analyses and mainly refer to societal developments and how organisations are affected by them, the paper at hand provides a single case study on the organisational level. The case study allows a more detailed examination of how organisations can employ spirituality to serve organisational goals. The article identifies three aspects in which workplace spirituality can be misused: to mislead members about the nature of their work, abou...

Biofeedback is a treatment technique in which people are trained to improve their physiological functions by using different signals from their own bodies, e.g. from skin, heart (ECG), muscles (EMG), brain (EEG) etc. Psychotherapeutists use it to decrease intrapsychic tension in anxious and depressive patients and epileptics or learn to relax boys who suffered from attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders. The main system for consciousness (thalamocortical reverberation circuit) generates whole brain electromagnetic frequencies permanently (1-30 Hz = EEG activity). But we choose a specific frequency band, e.g. SMR (Sensory Motor Rhythm = 13-18 Hz) and these SMR episodes are rewarded by success in a simultaneously watched TV game. SMR is then repeated still more often and brings int...

Firms still have great difficulty joint venturing successfully in China. The authors contend that the current understanding of environmental risk in China is incomplete. Specifically, the current conceptualization has three problems: 1. lack of integration of unique Chinese environmental characteristics, 2. incomplete distinction between different types of environmental risk, and 3. lack of a conceptualization of how the risk pattern changes as the economy transitions. They extend the current risk framework to include the unique features of the Chinese context. They offer guidelines for managing risk tradeoffs over time using two key structural decisions: Channel partner relationship and equity ownership.
