Artificial Neural Networks are commonly used in pattern classification, function approximation, optimization, pattern matching, machine learning and associative memories. They are currently being an alternative to traditional statistical methods for mining data sets in order to classify data. Artificial Neural Networks are well-established technology for solving prediction and classification problems, using training and testing data to build a model. However, the success of the networks is highly dependent on the performance of the training process and hence the training algorithm. In this paper, we applied the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) Optimization Algorithm on training feed-forward neural networks to classify different data sets which are widely used in the machine learning communit...

Human values are individual characteristics that vary in importance and serve as guiding principles in a person's life. The purpose of this paper is to identify the values held today by Slovenian managers and students and contributes to the few studies that have examined the influence of age on values. The exploratory study comprises 130 managers and 118 students majoring in management. The managers highly value health, family happiness, honesty, freedom and wisdom, whereas the students perceive as the most important good friends, knowing oneself health, freedom, loyalty and family happiness.

This contribution is an attempt to demonstrate that the concept of "value generalization" is of considerable importance for moral philosophy and therefore hopefully also for those interested in business and economic ethics. The importance of this concept lies in its relevance for what one could call "the logic of a communication about values." This logic is different from the structure of rational-argumentative discourse in a strict sense, but also far from a mere clash of values or identities or civilizations or any form of irrationalist decisionism as if ultimate values could only be chosen in an existential way without any reasoning and intersubjective plausibility.

In The Global Evolution of Industrial Relations, Kaufman presents the following thesis. Aspects of work and employment have long been subjects of interest to academic commentators. This interest, around what used to be called the "Labour Question" or more broadly the "Social Question", continues to the present day. These concerns and Industrial Relations itself encompasses three topics: 1. the ethical, ideological, normative underpinnings of thought and action in the area; 2. the ideas, concepts, and theories which have been developed to understand and explain arrangements and patterns; and 3. how the first two may have the potential to help solve problems.

This paper revisits the mainstream academic perspective on the relationship between multinationality and performance (MP). The authors argue that most, if not all, past empirical work on this international management topic is flawed from a conceptual perspective since there is no valid theoretical rationale that would predict a generalizable MP relationship. They suggest that useful empirical work on the MP linkage requires prior analysis of the key parameters underlying the substance of the multinationality concept in specific empirical settings. They revisit the MP relationship, and elaborate on three key parameters underlying the substance of the multinationality concept: Variety of strategic motivations for FDI, environmental complexity resulting from bundles of discrete FDI decisio...

This study empirically relates two important areas of management research: the full-range theory of leadership and the organizational learning process. Specifically, this contribution addresses three issues: (1) the impact of transformational leadership and (2) of transactional leadership on the organizational learning process and (3) whether the influence of transformational leadership is stronger than of a transactional type of leadership. The results show that transformational leadership has a strong impact on all four constructs of organizational learning. A direct impact is evident only regarding information acquisition and behavioural and cognitive changes.

One important success factor of foreign firms in Russia is the establishment of efficient networks with non-market stakeholders. Stakeholder networks may help foreign firms to obtain relevant information, accelerate administrative decision-making and reduce political risks. The objective of this study is to analyze the stakeholder networks between German investors in Russia and their socio-political interest groups. The study is based on in-depth interviews with the representatives of 3 German firms and 16 socio-political interest groups in autumn 2006. The results of a within-case and a cross-case analysis reveal that the development of stakeholder relations is important for the success of foreign companies in Russia. These may differ in size, intensity, density and centrality, dependi...

While the role of management accountants has traditionally been limited to the provision of useful information to decision-makers, recent studies show that contemporary management accountants have become an integral part of strategic decision-making processes. The findings based on a survey of 193 large Slovenian companies reveal that Slovenian accountants are relatively strongly involved in strategic management processes, although the level of participation varies intensely across industries. Participation is relatively high in contemporary manufacturing industries, the trade sector, and tourism and hospitality services, whereas it is relatively low in public services and utilities, construction, and logistics sectors.
