• Internationalization From a Small Domestic Base: An Empirical Analysis of Foreign Direct Investments of Icelandic Firms

Iceland is like a black hole in the study of foreign direct investment (FDI) from the Nordic countries; there is a gap in the literature about FDI from Iceland. This paper is the first empirical study that addresses the outward foreign direct investment of Icelandic firms. The purpose is to demonstrate how Icelandic companies have invested abroad through foreign direct investments. The overall objective of this paper is to describe the key characteristics of Icelandic multi- national corporations and to gain a deeper understanding of the internationalization processes of firms with a small domestic base. • Globalization, Transformation and the Diffusion of Management Innovations

This paper suggests a shift from the discourse on transfer and transition with regard to CEE societies towards one focusing on transformation proceses that come with globalization. Since globalization can be interpreted as the spread of ideas, informations, practices, goods and techniques, the perspective of the diffusion of management innovations is introduced and enlarged by including power relations, the interests of actors and cultural aspects of change. The argument of culture as barrier for the adoption of innovation is challenged in favor of one that sees it as a chance for contributing to innovation and globalization.
