This paper sets out to propose the techniques that enable corporations to develop and to implement robust strategies under conditions of severe uncertainty. Through the correction of the traditional definition of stakeholders I found the general algorithm for achieving robustness in corporate strategies. This algorithm includes: (1) the clear definition of a limited set of the types of stakeholders, (2) the simplification of the sets of stakeholders' claims and discovery of intrinsic benefits common for all stakeholders of a particular type, (3) defining the space of acceptance of corporate performance for each type of stakeholders, (4) finding a non-empty intersection of such spaces for all types of stakeholders. The use of these techniques is illustrated by the new strategy of LUKOIL ...

Subsidiary managers are faced with complex managerial roles involving both the interests of the multinational corporation (MNC) and the subsidiary. This paper suggests complex roles are best fulfilled when managers develop dual organizational identification towards both entities. Based on a conceptualization of dual organizational identification in terms of relative magnitude, the effect of dual identification on subsidiary manager roles and role conflict is tested. Results indicate that high identification with both entities is associated with high role fulfillment and that similarity in organizational identities directly affects role conflict.

When the UN Global Compact was introduced in 1999 by Kofi Annan at the World Economic Forum in Davos, companies were asked to embrace, support, and enact, within their sphere of influence, a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labor standards, the environment and since June 2004 also including anti-corruption. Thus any company that pledges support to the Global Compact commits itself to two human rights-related principles: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within their sphere of influence. Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. Enlightened companies do not define their mission narrowly. Being aware of their responsibilities as corporate citizens, they measure their succe...

Drawing on the transaction costs, strategic capability and the strategic cognition perspectives, this study seeks to examine whether and how firms' strategic orientations at the business level influence the entry mode choices that firms make in accessing foreign markets. The study uses a sample of 332 foreign market entries made by 62 US based firms over a period of 6 years to test hypotheses linking firm business level strategy to the choice of foreign entry modes. Findings indicate that Prospectors are more likely to choose equity-based foreign market entry modes than Defenders. In addition, Prospectors favor full-ownership entry modes, namely, greenfield investments and full acquisitions, over shared-ownership modes such as joint ventures and partial acquisitions. In this study, the ...
