  • This paper sketches a theory of computer-mediated leadership, drawing on research on computer-mediated communication (CMC) and leadership. The forecast it makes for computer-mediated forms of leadership is mixed. Leadership interactions that focus on the personal and dyadic level are predicted to be deficient under conditions of CMC as compared with face-to-face interaction. Two notable exceptions are identified. If message or task equivocality is low, CMC can be more efficient than face-to-face interaction. The second exception concerns attributions of charisma: For leaders who present themselves skilfully and strategically in CMC, followers' impressions are hypothesised to become accentuated or hypercharismatic. The above effects are all hypothesised to occur under conditions of high ...

  • The rise of emerging markets not only provides opportunities for business growth but also for academic researchers to explore different paradigms in international marketing activities. This article details a case study of how a Taiwanese mother board company establishes and re-structures marketing channels in Russia over three developmental stages: entry, accelerating growth and decelerating growth stages. The findings reflect that market mechanism cannot be fully developed in the entry and accelerating growth stages due to obstacles to distributor selection and limited resources of supplier. Different growth speeds between channels necessitate the supplier to re-structure its channel partnerships.

  • With the purpose of guaranteeing the copyright and security of software, we introduce the structural fingerprint and the distance of the fingerprint to find the same source programs from a great deal of programs in this paper. In order to gain the structural fingerprint, the in-degree, out-degree and adjacency relationship are exacted from call graph to construct a structural matrix. Then this matrix is mapped to RGB image and to compute the color moments of this image. Comparing with the traditional binary comparison way in which finding graph isomorphism is based on control flow graph or instruction similarity, this method offers many advantages in application. First of all, the image processing techniques are made full use of to gain the color moments that are considered as the struc...

  • In the article it is tried to substantiate further developments in human resource management with reference to the competency approach in work and organisational psychology. First the objectives of scientific and applied research in work and organizational psychology are lined out. Then the competency approach is discussed as a helpful concept to different challenges of human resource management. With reference to this assumption three different theoretical and methodological perspectives are introduced which focus on different aspects of understanding, analysing, diagnosing and developing competencies. These include the action and self-organisation theory perspectives of competencies and the competency modelling perspectives.

  • Technological optimistic voices assume that, from a technical perspective, the IT possibilities for HRM are endless: in principal all HR processes can be supported by IT. E-HRM is the relatively new term for this IT supported HRM, especially through the use of web technology. This paper aims at demystifying e-HRM by answering the following questions: what actually is e-HRM?, what are the goals of starting with e-HRM?, what types can be distinguished? and what are the outcomes of e-HRM? Based upon the literature, an e-HRM research model is developed and, guided by this model, five organizations have been studied that have already been on the "e-HR road" for a number of years. We conclude that the goals of e-HRM are mainly to improve HR's administrative efficiency/to achieve cost reductio...

  • Outsourcing has gained much prominence in managerial practice and academic discussions in the last two decades or so. Yet, we still do not understand the full implications of outsourcing strategy for corporate performance. The authors longitudinally analyze three cases of major consumer electronics manufacturers, Emerson Radio from the US, Japan's Sony and Philips from the Netherlands to understand the dynamic process related to their sourcing strategies. They develop an evolutionary stage model that relates outsourcing to competence development inside the firm and shows that a vicious cycle may emerge. Results suggest that each of these firms had faced a loss of manufacturing competitiveness in its home country, to which it responded by offshoring and then outsourcing production. When ...

  • This contribution presents a concept and an analysis of system and functional requirements for a database management system for neuroinformatics data (NIDB). The basic idea of NIDB is to allow to collect and interchange biomedical and associated data among research groups working on several projects in the field of neuro-informatics and HMI. The main aim of NIDB is to collect the output data measured in the projects, to allow to organize and annotate them, to provide an arbitrary selected subset of data to further analysis or research, and lastly, to merge the results with original data. As the research is in progress on several locations, NIDB is designed to work in a distributed environment.

  • It has been proved that the emotional state of a car driver has a great impact on his driving performance. Emotions can be triggered by internal stimuli (stress) or external stimuli (aggressive scenes). In this paper we propose a system of classification of certain emotional states by analysis of EEG recordings. We present the results of two experiments. In one experiment we recorded EEG data of car drivers in a simulated environment under conditions with a varying stress level. In the other experiment we presented pictures of emotional situations to car drivers. It proves that we were able to assess the state of respondents under extreme emotions.
