  • This paper reviews recent books supporting the development of using qualitative methods in interpretative research. Revolving around three major issues, i.e. increasing the level of rigour, using software packages and new methodological developments, the paper outlines the specific contributions of these books and lays out further needs for development. • In the following paper, the use of fuzzy models in qualitative rating systems is analyzed in detail. The author works in an Austrian finance institution. There are at the moment two rating systems in use. The main purpose of such a rating system is to analyze company ratios to calculate a rating score, which is a measure for the financial situation and rigidity of a company. The first one is a solely hard fact rating system based on the Quicktest by Kralicek. The second one uses self-organizing maps and neural networks to calculate a rating classification and also offers the possibility to dispose personal appraisal in the calculation process. The following work examines the application spectrum of fuzzy logic and fuzzy models in soft-fact rating systems. We show that the use of fuzzy m...

  • This article examines the impact of different cultural standards on the processes and performances of Austrian, Spanish, German and Hungarian task groups. We therefore analyzed 201 qualitative interviews with Austrians, Spaniards, Germans and Hungarians, which were conducted from 1996 to 2001. This paper uses the cultural standard framework as its theoretical background as well as the concepts of team development. The emphasis on our research is on those culture standards that have been identified as relevant for the cooperation within teams. Critical Incidents that can be explained by the above-mentioned culture standards have been categorized referring to the "Five-Phase-Model" of team development by Tuckman and Jensen.

  • With the purpose of guaranteeing the copyright and security of software, we introduce the structural fingerprint and the distance of the fingerprint to find the same source programs from a great deal of programs in this paper. In order to gain the structural fingerprint, the in-degree, out-degree and adjacency relationship are exacted from call graph to construct a structural matrix. Then this matrix is mapped to RGB image and to compute the color moments of this image. Comparing with the traditional binary comparison way in which finding graph isomorphism is based on control flow graph or instruction similarity, this method offers many advantages in application. First of all, the image processing techniques are made full use of to gain the color moments that are considered as the struc...

  • The Dutch police system has been under pressure during the last decades. Critical debates focused on police' dealing with the growing (perceived) insecurity, the administrative problems of size and efficiency, the core tasks of the police, the distribution of power over the police and it's accountability. These issues have become even more relevant since integrated local safety policies have been developed to tackle public safety problems by the police together with more and different partners, within government or even outside of it. At the same time the national government wants to direct its local and regional partners more, while holding on to local performance. The aim of this article is to show the developments of the last decades that have influenced the (re)organization of the p...

  • Technological optimistic voices assume that, from a technical perspective, the IT possibilities for HRM are endless: in principal all HR processes can be supported by IT. E-HRM is the relatively new term for this IT supported HRM, especially through the use of web technology. This paper aims at demystifying e-HRM by answering the following questions: what actually is e-HRM?, what are the goals of starting with e-HRM?, what types can be distinguished? and what are the outcomes of e-HRM? Based upon the literature, an e-HRM research model is developed and, guided by this model, five organizations have been studied that have already been on the "e-HR road" for a number of years. We conclude that the goals of e-HRM are mainly to improve HR's administrative efficiency/to achieve cost reductio...
