  • One important success factor of foreign firms in Russia is the establishment of efficient networks with non-market stakeholders. Stakeholder networks may help foreign firms to obtain relevant information, accelerate administrative decision-making and reduce political risks. The objective of this study is to analyze the stakeholder networks between German investors in Russia and their socio-political interest groups. The study is based on in-depth interviews with the representatives of 3 German firms and 16 socio-political interest groups in autumn 2006. The results of a within-case and a cross-case analysis reveal that the development of stakeholder relations is important for the success of foreign companies in Russia. These may differ in size, intensity, density and centrality, dependi...

  • There is much change happening within outpatient care in Germany. What will be the out-come of these changes? This article analyzes changes in the legal framework and policy impacts concerning the system of organized interests. Subsequently the manifold changes in German regions are analyzed to develop ideal-typical scenarios of the possible future of hierarchy, market, and cooperation in outpatient care governance. It is argued that minor reform compromises are about to lead to major changes of the subsystem.

  • This paper presents a lossy compression scheme for biomedical images by using a new method. Image data compression using Vector Quantization (VQ) has received a lot of attention because of its simplicity and adaptability. VQ requires the input image to be processed as vectors or blocks of image pixels. The Finite-state vector quantization (FSVQ) is known to give better performance than the memory less vector quantization (VQ). This paper presents a novel combining technique for image compression based on the Hierarchical Finite State Vector Quantization (HFSVQ) and the neural network. The algorithm performs nonlinear restoration of diffraction-limited images concurrently with quantization. The neural network is trained on image pairs consisting of a lossless compression named hierarchic...

  • This article charts the evolution and content of the current debate around the legitimate role of global business, in which business is charged with a broader responsibility for social, economic and environmental conditions in the developing world. Drawing from the human rights framework, the paper suggests there is a distinction between the 'depths' of responsibility presented in this debate, and identifies Sustainable Enterprise as a more active engagement of global business in addressing the challenges of globalization. Within the approach business attempts to create both financial and social value for the world's economically-excluded human majority. Undertaken by a number of global corporations under a discursive frame that echos ideas of noblesse oblige, this approach presents a n...

  • This paper focuses on the relationship between work role stressors and job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention among IT personnel. To collect data, the study cooperated with the IT SME/Venture Business Association in Korea. IT firms provided the names and addresses of IT personnel working in the Seoul and Gyeonggi region. Results indicated that work role stressors had a positive, indirect effect on turnover intention through low job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The relationship between WFC and organizational commitment was significant. Findings suggested that role ambiguity has negative impact on organizational commitment. The mediating effect of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on turnover intention was not supported.
