The aim of this paper is to investigate the question of gender difference in the entrepreneurial orientation of managers in the post-transition economy of Slovenia. The concept of intervening variables as parts of the conative components of entrepreneurial orientation is introduced and gender differences are examined between variables. 183 Slovene top and middle managers were analysed in this respect. The results indicate that there are no gender differences in the variable to spot opportunities, to risk, to innovate, and in the intervening variable to plan, and to follow procedures, but a gender difference exists in the intervening variable to analyse, to quantify, and to justify and in the intervening variables of dexterity and craftsmanship, which could be attributed to gender occupa...

According to the theory, a combination of the highly regulated external labour market and the internal rigidity would induce organisational inefficiency. Evidence suggests that theoretically unexpected results of that combination prevailed in Slovenia. Under the pressure of the competition on the international markets, Slovene companies, being trapped in the combination of the two rigidities, were determined to compete on the basis of work intensification. The surviving coalition, based on the exchange between the managers (demanding work intensification) on the one hand, and trade unions (defending employees' wage and job stability) on the other, was formed. Within the logic of the exchange, trade unions actively participated in the fight for companies' survival. As a specific entrepre...

In order to meet the Kyoto Protocol's greenhouse gas emissions targets, the EU has implemented an Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) as a cornerstone of its climate policy. The main attribute of this mechanism is its inherent flexibility. It offers companies the possibility of tailoring a carbon management strategy that is the most cost-effective, i.e. reducing actual emissions vs. buying allowances to emit. Although the EU ETS was launched in 2005, to date little is known about its implications for corporate carbon management. The study provides some original insights into corporate carbon management strategies by deploying a case study of two Slovenian manufacturing companies.

With the advancement of the eastern enlargement of the EU, some advocates of the European social model saw enlargement as the "Trojan horse" against Europeanization, for the Americanization of Europe. In response, the EU recommended the strengthening of social partnership among business, labor and the state in candidate countries. This paper reveals four major venues for change: (1) emphasis on a new philosophy of social dialogue as social governance; (2) broadening the scope of participants in social dialogue; (3) development of autonomous and multi-level social dialogue among the organizations of employees and employers; and (4) capacity building for participation of the social partners in EU-level social dialogue.
