A group of fuzzy IF-THEN rules is belonging to one of the most popular, most effective, and user- friendliest knowledge representations. For this reason, extraction of these rules is becoming a more-and-more important part of the Data Mining stage in the Knowledge Discovery in Databases Process. In this paper, a direct algorithm for extracting fuzzy IF-THEN rules on the basis of linguistic variable elimination is described. The algorithm is implemented within a designed object-oriented software library Fuzzy Rule Miner. Besides the introduced algorithm, it implements two algorithms for fuzzy rule extraction based on using fuzzy decision trees of ID3 kind. An essential precondition for comparing the implemented algorithms and for verifying the legitimacy of the introduced algorithm is pe...

In contrast to result-driven publications in which the academic narrative constructs the process of data analysis and the conceptual framework as purposefully designed and inevitably leading to the findings, this article will take a closer look at the concrete development of interpretative schemes and the openness of this process. We will do so by referring to an extensive empirical study of the German theatrical employment system. Following the course of our research project, the article will explicate and discuss (1) the decision for conducting qualitative rather than quantitative research, (2) the identification and definition of 'what is the case' and how this decision was influenced by ongoing data interpretation and changing and new theoretical inputs, and (3) the question of the ...

An opposition between social cooperation (stakeholderism) and Neoliberal market solutions paralyzes political and scientific debate on reform in Germany today. This essay rejects that opposition by recasting the way in which each of the categories is understood. Pressure to become more flexible in many areas of work and organizational life has not given rise to a blanket embrace of "the market" on a local level. Instead, it has induced widespread experimentation with alternative forms of workplace and firm governance that involve continual and collaborative recomposition of stakeholder roles in and among firms and social actors. In other words, stakeholder governance is not disintegrating or giving way to the market in Germany. It is being redefined. Experimentation with roles and rules...
