Speech Analysis of Children with Developmental Dysphasia by Supervised Som

Summary

Tuckova and Zetocha study the connectivity between children's developmental dysphasia and assess the degree of perception and impairment of speech by using artificial neural networks and using knowledge of phonetics. A comparative voice analysis of healthy children and ill children is also performed.

Speech Analysis of Children with Developmental Dysphasia by Supervised Som

1. Introduction

Nowadays, many researchers try to apply known mathematical- engineering methods into various domains of life. One of them is to help to the handicapped and ill people. Our research team focuses its interest in part of the research of the children with some neurological defects which cause also speech defects. We assume that a neurological defect can influence a movement of a vocal tract. Its motion should be visible by given speech characteristic frequencies called formants. We expect that the allocation of the vowels in the Kohonen map may change.

The regularity in children's speech evolution must be included into the analysis for a specification of an allocation and recognition improvement in a map. The evolution relates to the age and gender (not only for adults but also for children).

2. SOM algorithm

For analyses of children's speech, following algorithms related to the ...
