  1. According to section 495a, ZPO, some of the proceedings at the Amtsgericht are preceded by a so-called 'Conciliation Procedure' (Giiteverfahren). Its primary purpose is to make the subject-matter of the dispute clear to the parties themselves, especially to those who are not represented by a lawyer, and, wherever possible, to work for an amicable settlement of the dispute.

  2. Written pleadings are not required in the Amtsgericht. The parties may make all their motions orally before the Clerk of the court (Geschiftsstelle), or before a special Rechtsantragstelle (application office) established at the courts, section 496, ZPO.
