A Capsule Summary of the Book and its Review

In their book 'Managing a Global Workforce--Challenges and Opportunities in International Human Resource Management' Charles M. Vance and Yongsun Paik give a comprehensive review of the underlying conditions, challenges, and practices of international human resource management nowadays.

The book integrates traditional micro human resource topics such as staffing, compensation, and performance appraisal and more macro human resource issues such as immigration and offshore outsourcing. Owing to the last worldwide financial and economic crisis the authors have adapted in this second edition of their book a more diversified approach for global HRM also referring to how to manage a global workforce during a global economic crisis. Therefore, the book provides broad insights into the management of global human resources taking into account the ever-changing business environment.

Due to its plain writing style as well as its illustrative cases the book is well suited for practitioners and students alike. It could perfectly be used for general management students which attend an international HRM course as an elective.

Structure and Contents

Following the table of contents a preface is given by the editors which is built to highlight the objectives of the book. The book is organized in eleven...
